The causes of dark circle can be divided into four categories:
-
Pigmented type: can be congenital, or acquired due to improper care, such as incomplete makeup removal, frequent rubbing of eyes, may cause long-term under pigmentation.
-
Vascular type: Due to poor blood circulation, such as allergic rhinitis, staying up late. Women during menstruation, menopause or pregnancy, due to hormonal changes affecting blood circulation, dark circle may also get worse.
-
Tear Trough type: the skin surrounding the eyes becomes loose and sunken, forming tear trough. Furthermore, the loss of elastic fiber and collagen reduces the support to blood vessels, resulting in fine lines and dark circle.
-
Eyebag type: the protruding part of eyebag casts a shadow beneath it, it is more obvious under lighting, causing the visual illusion of dark circle.
